Found some familiar looking cup ramens- so I tried them
This week's post will be featuring two cup ramens! I usually never get the cup version of noodles because it's never as good as the packet version and I never really eat ramen on-the-go. However, I decided to get the cup versions of these because they didn't come in individual packets and I didn't want to commit to buying a whole bag. Honestly, it's because I don't think I would really like them.
For one thing, the Hwa noodle packaging looks like they are trying to copy the Shin ramen packaging, which we all know is a super successful ramen created by Nongshim. Instead of "Shin" as the character, they have the Chinese/Japanese character for "fire". The Volcano Chicken noodle looks like a version of the hugely popular Samyang Spicy Chicken Buldak Ramen. This is understandable, these type of fire noodle ramens have become super popular in the last few years due to those "Fire Noodle" Challenges popping up on the internet.
Anyway onto the ramen! The sauces are standard, the Hwa Noodle comes with a dry packet and the Volcano Chicken noodle comes with a saucy packet hmmm suspiciously similar to their Shin and Buldak counterparts :P
The Hwa Noodle is a soup ramen with dried vegetables inside, so thats pretty standard. The Volcano Chicken ramen is a dry kind, so it comes with these handy drainage holes that you poke through so you can easily drain the water
So onto the flavor:
The Volcano Chicken ramen has a sweet, spicy, chicken flavor. There's also a slight curry flavor. It doesnt really taste like the Samyang Buldak one at all which is refreshing :) As for the spice, I wouldn't say its "volcano" level, but it is nicely spicy. It reminds me of the Asian Zing wings from buffalo wild wings, so if you think that's spicy then this will be spicy to you as well. It's very sweet like the Asian Zing wings. Personally I've burned off enough taste buds to not think it's too spicy. I also wish the noodles were thick like the Samyang one but instead it's just a standard noodle.
The Hwa ramen has a very strong chicken flavor, to be honest it was a little overwhelming. It's not a spicy as the Volcano Chicken, but it's a numbing spice and not a salty spice. It's weird that the Volcano Chicken ramen mentions "Chicken" in the name but there's less chicken flavor lol. It doesn't actually taste like Shin Ramen either, there's no acidity like Shin. The noodles are a bit different from the Volcano Ramen but also pretty standard and not that good. It's probably because it's a cup version so its forgivable.
